For me, the only glaring negatives regarding the District Theatre's production of reasons to be pretty were the all-too-long scene changes as actors carried set pieces on and off the stage. I loved the premise and the main message of the book, but I just couldn't bring myself to empathise with any of the characters because they all seemed so boring. Just right there, my boyfriend, who's over at the grill and laughing and making burgers for all of us... and he was, too. The woman's friend is more conventionally "pretty" but suffers from being stalked by guys, being the victim of jealousy, and other problems. And then has the audacity to say "Women, huh? Overall, a good drama about relationships, slightly tarnished by the bluntness with which the author tries to convey his message.
