Suprised me because just did an oil change 3000 miles ago. Now its the side clearance when i torque it down its tight question is am i doing this right. The oil pressure sender is a small black cylinder that reads the oil pressure and relays it to the gauge on your dashboard. I was thinking oil pump. I am having the exact same issue with my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 (91, 000 miles). However with this fix you better be educated on what sounds mean what since your only gonna be able to check level. Keep a shop cloth or rag nearby to catch any spills.
You can get a build sheet on yours from Chrysler with only an email and the VIN# very useful to have and free, you may be surprised at some options it has that you are not aware of. Either way, good luck to everyone. John welcome to the forum!! With 187, 000 miles. Here are a few of the steps that you can pursue to diagnose your low oil pressure condition: Check the Oil Level.
But battery has 14V, is that enough? Pull the dipstick out again to see the oil level on the bottom. Note:We have bought most of our vehicles through this dealer. Now I noticed oil pressure is zero at no speed in gear... put it in park and it goes away. BUT I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT NOT BEING COVERED WHILE IT'S UNDER WARRANTY.!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I ran sea foam to clean the sludge I couldnt get out, drained the oil, replaced the pickup tube, oil pump, and pressure sensor (switch). Check out "white foam in oil cap" post on 1/12. A while back my son was over helping me and pulled it out, i did not even know it came out, we cleaned it up and after filling the motor up with oil put it back in, now at ever oil change i take it out and wipe it off. Also when you rebuilt the engine, did you clean out all sludge and change the oil pump? Question is what should the oil pressure read at idle? After a few seconds have passed, the warning message usually goes away and the vehicle starts idling normally. While there are no ways you or a mechanic can directly test the pump, you can check your oil pressure to determine if there's an underlying problem.
Never any problems before this. Pressure gauge would fall completely, no engine noise, no sound that indicate motor was starving for oil. I bought the one from advance auto which has a free lifetime replacement. I decided to dive in and do some more serious investigating. Do not drive when the engine is showing low oil pressure. It was worse then ever. I started it up today and hears a tapping, shut it down right away and checked the oil and it was low.
7l then I would be looking at head gaskets. Hopefully it's just the oil sensor. Replace OP sensor and fixed. Stop your vehicle for a few minutes, take a dipstick, and check the oil level. It will clean out sludge from oil gallery. Run a decent but inexpensive oil with your cleaner every 200- 500 miles and then dump the oil. I bought one from NAPA that only read 40 psi EVER. There is a tube in your Dakota that takes the oil from the pan to the oil pump. The pressure gauge would drop to zero at idle and come back we I hit the gas.
