‎Humanoids From The Deep (1980) Directed By Barbara Peeters • Reviews, Film + Cast • Letterboxd

When this monster is on-screen, it doesn't take much suspension of disbelief to enjoy the mayhem – though a little certainly doesn't hurt. The beauty queen ("Miss Salmon"! ) I suggest avoiding the 1996 version of HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP and seeking out the nasty 1980 film. The second change is the film grain. It was a great year for horror but there is one film that people don't talk about very: Humanoids from the Deep. That will stick in your brain like an STD-infected fishhook. Apart from this worth watching movie, I have to exalt James Horner's melodies and his magnificent music score. Peeters even throws a few social issues like bigotry against Native Americans and environmental damage, which is pretty flimsy but a unique addition to the boobs and gore. One such film mentioned numerous times was Humanoids from the Deep, a film that I could never get my hands on. That is unless you sneak up on them. Many a kid my age told tales of catching late night showings of R rated movies with all the dirty parts left in! Nevermind the fact that coelacanths live in the waters around Madagascar, while Canco s new operation is poised to set up shop in Maine or some such place (and while we re at it, nevermind that coelacanth is pronounced SEE-la-canth and not koala-canth )-- Dr. Drake s apocalyptic predictions have proven to be right on the money. But when it came to her use of 'shaddowed' rape scenes it seems Peeters didn't live up to his expectations. A fishing boat blows ups without warning, the town's dog population mysteriously winds up dead, and several residents seem to up and disappear out of thin air. Starring: Doug McClure, Ann Turkel, Vic Morror. All that said, the movie really isn't any more deep, plotwise, with or without the nudity and rape.

Humanoids From The Deep

Our Righteous Indian has not been having a good week. Stento a credere che dietro la macchina da presa ci sia una donna, tanto il film gronda mascolinità da ognidove, compreso il tamarrissimo montaggio delle esplosioni da più angolazioni. Not only is there no assurance that all the gill-men have been destroyed, but Peggy s fate, as revealed in the movie s it s-not-over-yet epilogue, raises the issue of what became of the other girls who were raped and kidnapped by the monsters. Produced by Roger Corman, through his New World Pictures production company, Humanoids from the Deep concerns a small town's inhabitants being picked off one by one by monsters from the sea. Later, when something kills all of Noyo s watchdogs except for Johnny s, Hank again jumps to the conclusion that Johnny is using terror tactics to oppose the cannery s arrival-- nobody wants to set up business in a town full of bomb-throwers, after all. Still, it would have been great to hear James Horner's surprisingly potent score mastered into the 5.

Humanoids From The Deep Full Movie

She had experience with B-movie horror, and had even dabbled in directing adult film, but she was the one of the rare female voices in a genre dominated by men, even more so 40 years ago. The violence is pretty sudden when it happens, and Bottin's effects are wonderfully on point, and the gore effects stand up nicely over the years. The characters aren't particularly likable (they usually aren't in films like this) and the finale (not the "shock" ending, but the film's true climax) leaves so many questions unanswered, it's sure to leave a sour taste in your mouth, particularly now, years later, knowing there will never be a sequel that explains a few of the holes. Fred Olen Ray would utilize this editing scheme in many of his later 80's action movies. You can definitely tell this film was actually shot on film whereas the 2010 blu-ray looked a bit too processed. His role in HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP (1980) is basically the same as those seen in any number of sci fi monster films from the 1950's. What begins as carnage as the humanoids slaughter the town's denizens and, ahem, greet the women, then turns into this free-for-all where the town fights back claw and nail, shooting and beating the creatures to death. The perpetrators of these crimes are weird fish monsters who have come from the deep from mutated DNA and intend to wreck havoc as fish monsters do.

Humanoids From The Deep Nudity

As you may have gathered from his surname, Johnny Eagles is our Righteous Indian, and he wants Canco to stay the hell away from Noyo, rightly believing that their methods will drive the already threatened salmon population to extinction in a matter of years. Chunks of flesh are ripped off, people are decapitated, and bodies are snapped in two. It may not be the bloodiest monster movie, but I don't think anyone can deny that the Humanoids know how to get the job done. Using a remarkable genetic treatment called DNA-5, Drake has found a way to make salmon grow larger, faster, and twice as plentiful as they would in nature, allowing their populations to withstand the staggering rates of attrition that come with industrialized fishing. SIKE.., He just hired a second director to shoot these scenes and include them in the final edit without Peeters permission (can't be a legend in the industry and not be a complete scumbag). Rob Bottin (THE THING) created the impressive monster design and costumes.

A fight ensues, and suddenly people and other animals are being mutilated by strange creatures. How something this gnarly came out the same year…. One takes place during a fight between Jim and Johnny Eagle against Slattery and his goons. Apparently this film was a surprise success and Corman remade it in 1996, which is fantastic because I've more content to milk for Beer Goggles. Se volete passare una bella serata a cervello spento, con un B-movie ignorante, ingenuo, ma anche divertentissimo, "Essere Ignoti dai Profondi Abissi" fa sicuramente al caso vostro. If you're a fan of monster and exploitation films than yes. The disc is REGION A (locked). He turns to the camera to shock both us, and his unwitting girlfriend. Anyways, the real story here is about a town that is (unknowingly) surrounded by a colony of fish/human hybrids (aka Humanoids) that are hell bent on killing all of the men in the town and RAPING all of the women. Nudity and sex have been a staple of the horror genre from the 70s to the early 2000s. The kitten I recently rescued decided to claw my sack in the middle of this write-up.

Humanoids of the Deep (1980) was a gory, sleazy and absolutely delightful experience. Either way, this one wasn't going to win any awards. I've seen the poster art for years, and I've just never taken the plunge. The townspeople are, for the most part, excited by this development, which promises to revive the local economy. Drake, it turns out, strongly suspected something like this might happen as a result of her experiments. It's one heck of a fun ride and although this won't be for everyone, I think it's a surprisingly good '80s romp. Why aren't you focusing more on what they're doing/causing? The 2010 blu-ray, the grain looks unnatural and chunky. Face peelings and rib exposure.

I didn't think I was a bad person... On the other hand the women are pretty strong. Annoyingly, like many Shout BD releases, this disc is missing any subtitles or captions. Were the graphic reshoots necessary? Where the film really lives up to its cult status is a wonderfully manic siege of the town's Salmon Fair. This version features additional gore (an infamous scene involving some terrific makeup). Video and Presentation. Our monster, who spends a shocking amount of time on-screen (during the daytime, no less) is fairly elaborate, decked out in seaweed, green slime and other goo. He and Doug McClure are the only "names". NOTE: This review contains screenshot comparisons between the 2019 blu-ray release from Scream Factory and the 2010 blu-ray release from Shout! Do this immediately. What you see is what you get.

A bit more humor would have helped. I'm kind of ashamed of myself; I really am. Available on Blu-ray from Shout Factory with a surprisingly good image in certain scenes, not all. Once again, Shout misses the opportunity to provide fans with a Digital Copy of the film, though. But, alas, they are not. Clearly, somebody has a lot of explaining to do, and at last, that explanation is forthcoming. Radio Spot (35s, HD) Same audio from the TV Spot. Over all I can't recommend it. And brought in a second, male director in post production to film additional scenes of rape and nudity. He had been talking over the likely environmental impact of the cannery with Tommy and his girlfriend Linda at the time, so at least it looks like he ll have witnesses to Hank s terrorism, but alas, both Tommy and Linda get worked over pretty thoroughly by the gill-men. Doug McClure Goes Fishing For Babies|. Miss Salmon, 1980 and the K-Fish DJ|. One shot of a decapitation followed by a close up of the monster carrying the head around was removed for the US release but is found on the foreign DVD releases of the film. This Isn't a Good Sign|.
